The beautiful Isla Holbox is located in the north of the Yucatán Peninsula is 3 hours away from the International Airport Cancun. The tropical island is 2 kilometers wide, 40 kilometers long and known for long white sandy beaches and lush flora and fauna.
Especially birds are at home here. The most famous of the approximately 350 different bird species you can see every day on the beach.
The various street and beach art is also a highlight and in general you can feel a wonderful positive and peaceful vibe on Isla Holbox.
Some important things to know about Holbox:
If you bring anything in plastic bottles to the island, please pack out with you. This includes empty bug spray, lotions, shampoo, anything that is plastic garbage we ask you to take back off the island with you.
There is not yet reliable recycling, and all this would go to the dump.
Do not take anything from the environment. This includes shells, sand, and other things you might be tempted to collect. The island is here to enjoy and take pictures, but not to take with you.
If you use a bicycle or rent a golf cart, DO NOT GO IN THE SEA! You must stay on roads. There are many small creatures that are affected by the tires and oil on chains. Be kind to the island and all of its creatures.
DRONES are not allowed, by anyone! Not even Mexican citizens can use drones legally in Holbox. They cause confusion and harm to many of the migratory birds. We have lost entire nests of eagles due to drones.
We report drone use since it is extremely harmful.
If you smoke, please take your butts with you from the beaches and be mindful of fire. Fires can destroy entire properties and business very quickly.
